In 2010 the student clashed with the police in violent protests in the Parliament House during the months of November and December against the cuts in further education and the increase on university fees (almost the triple, from up to £3000 to £9000) planned by the Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition government. Student groups sais that the cuts to education and the excessive increase would damage higher education, give students bigger debts and would restrict higher education to the lower class.

The actuation of the Metropolitan Police in dealing with the protests was very criticized for being untruthfulness and the excessive use of force.

 

The vote was on favor for just twenty-one votes. It has helped to accentuate the fact that exist a bigger division between social classes based on their economic status thanks to a non-affordable education.
